HOW WE BEGAN

In 1960 my wife Evelyn had a prolapsed pelvis and was encased in plaster from her bust to bottom and was in great pain. To help pass her time, I bought her women’s magazines to read and it was in one of these that she read an article on healing. We wrote to the Harry Edwards Healing Sanctuary and he sent us the names and ‘phone numbers of two healers in Sheffield. I telephoned one man named Bill Kirkby and he agreed to come and see Eve, which he and another healer did.

The best doctors in Sheffield simply told us that she would have to live with it. Bill and his friend just put their hands on Eve and that was that. I must say I was NOT impressed! They came every week for three months and although the pain was easier she was NOT much improved. Bill’s friend stopped coming but Bill persisted every week. By Christmas we noticed a big improvement and by the following Easter Evelyn was free of pain. She was so well that we went on holiday. Our son was born in 1964 and NO ill-effects! We were then fortunate to have our daughter. I had to admit I WAS impressed!! So impressed that I asked Bill more about healing and how he did it. He said that if I was serious he would teach me, which he did. I was a probationer for 7 years.

In March 1973 we opened the Sheffield Healing Centre in Greenhill School and by the end of the year we were seeing up to 40 patients per night. After around 4 years, disaster came as all schools were made to close in the evenings so we moved to Upper Chapel on Norfolk Street. By this time Bill had left as his church had closed and he had other matters to deal with. I carried on and, by this time, had another three healers with me. Then we had another set back! It was found that the steeple was crumbling and the church was closed for repairs.

We then moved to the Friends’ Meeting House where we stayed for many years. Two of my healers retired but we were able to open a new centre at the St. Matthews Church Hall on Carver Street. By this time we had 6/8 healers and probationers.

When I retired from work in 1991 I rejoined them on Thursday mornings at St. Matthews and Friday evenings at the Friends’ Meeting House. Then came another blow. We were told that the building was to be demolished as that side of Angel Street was being redeveloped and were given one year’s notice. We moved all meetings to our current venue at St. Matthews on Thursday mornings and Friday evenings. Unfortunately, over the years city centre nightclubs, and a drug and drink rehabilitation centre which moved next door has kept people from coming in the evenings. We now have to manage with Thursday mornings only.

With my registration I can give healing worldwide as I am a member of the National Federation of Spiritual Healers and also the Pilgrim Healers. All our healers are registered and insured. Some of the healers do other therapies such as Foot Massage, Indian Head massage but we only do healing at the centre. If we go out privately then we charge, we have to!  I also go to give healing to horses in the Hope Valley area.
